HTC Hero Review post
It’s being reported by Ewan at Mobile Industry Review that the Hero, HTC’s third Android smartphone, will hit Orange shops in the UK tomorrow. There’s no press release on the Orange Newsroom web page yet but if MIR says it’s going to happen we’re inclined to believe it.
Edit: Not quite. This is how the conversation went in my local Orange store:
Me (on seeing no sign of the Hero anywhere. No phones on display, no posters, no POS stuff. Nothing: ‘Hi, can you tell me when the Hero’s due in?’
Sales Dude #1: ‘The What?’
Me (incredulously): ‘The HTC Hero?…’
SD1: <Bafflement>
Sales Dude #2: ‘Yeah, the Hero. Should be here in a couple of weeks’
So that went well and to be fair to MIR, Connor from Orange twittered that the Hero would be in stores today so there was some official confirmation. Maybe they just haven’t reached the frozen north yet (of England).
Anyway, since hands-on reviews of the Hero are hitting the tech blogs we’ve been checking them out. Generally these are very favourable, the chaps at Gizmodo probably being the least enthusiastic.
- Android Community / SlashGear
- Gizmodo
- Techradar
- Mobile Crunch
- T3 (slightly older but good hands-on video)
- Engadget
Not many so far but we’re only listing genuine hands-on reviews rather than feature lists and regurgitated opinions. We’ll update the list over the next week or so.

You should write orange a strongly worded letter, telling them to tell their staff about launch dates for new phones!

Ha! Good idea. I even had an email from the Orange Newsroom assuring me they were available in store yesterday. I’ll be replying to the negative.
Didn’t get a chance to go into town today so will try tomorrow. Probably they’ll be sold out and not have a demo phone…
