An official Namco release of Pac-man, the 80s arcade game is available for free for a limited time from the Android Market. For those who remember the original this is a real blast from the past. For those too young to remember it first time round, give it a go, it’s one of the all time classics.

Game play is pretty much identical to the original version -  i.e., munch pills, avoid ghosts, eat fruit (and repeat for up to 256 levels) and like all the best games it’s simple but addictive. Since it’s not so easy playing on a mobile handset as on a full-blown arcade machine or joypad equipped console, 3 difficulty modes have been provided: Original (like, you guessed it, the original); normal (a little slower); and easy (with 2 extra lives). So, no excuses.

Presumably to ensure compatibility with handsets not equipped with them, keyboard control isn’t an option – a shame for G1 owners since it’s probably the best input method. So that leaves us with trackball control (we reckon the best choice), touch screen (a bit laggy) or accelerometer (okay if you’re in the mood).

That’s about all there is to say about the game itself. It is *Pac-Man* after all. One more thing though; since it’s not clear how long the free offer will remain in place our advice would be grab it while you can.
