Tweetabouts for Android – Twitter profile location updater
Since we’ve talked a bit about a couple of tracking/location based apps recently (Glympse and My Tracks) you’d think we’d be bored of them by now, but no, not a bit of it so here’s a brief look at another: Tweetabouts.
So what is it? Very simply, Tweetabouts links your location (as determined by GPS or mobile networks) to your twitter account and displays it in your profile. Settings enable you to decide the format and precision displayed and whether your location is updated automatically or manually. There’s also a one-click option to Tweet your position with an auto-generated Google maps link.
This is a neat little app with sensible options and a nice interface (we especially like the fact the background changes to match the time of day). It’s great if you have the desire to let your Twitter followers in on your whereabouts but (fairly obviously) a bit pointless if you don’t. We have had a few force close issues after switching from manual to auto mode and vice-versa.
To be honest, we probably wouldn’t have found this if we weren’t following its developer, Dave Johnston, on Twitter. Who he? The chap who brought us (the Brits, at least) Beebplayer.
