iPlayer for the G1. Blink and you’d miss it
For a couple of weeks (if that) some lucky G1 owners were able to access the BBC’s rather spiffy iPlayer service via their phones thanks to the fantastic work of David Johnston and his BeebPlayer app. That’s the good news. Sadly, the bad news is that although you can still download it from the Android Market, you’re unlikely to actually be able to stream video from it.
What happened? Well it appears it’s been blocked by the dastardly BBC whose own developers haven’t managed to get their fingers out of their ***** long enough to provide an official port themselves. Well I suppose at least they have no excuse now…
You can read more about the rise and fall of BeebPlayer here (and the developer has contributed to the thread):

Edit: Apparently the BBC haven’t blocked the app but there are some issues which prevented it working at all over the weekend (9/10th May). It’s also unikely to work over 3G for T-Mobile subscribers for some mysterious reason. In summary then, it’s got to be worth a go if you’re in the UK.
