Documents to Go for Android gets an update
We were very impressed by Documents to Go for Android when we reviewed it recently but there were a couple of issues which took the shine off a fraction. Today we received email notification from Dataviz that an update was available so we thought we’d take a look and report back on the changes.
Rather cryptically, the email mentions ‘Cupcake v1.5 support/optimizations’. Since one of our complaints was the lack of support for the soft keyboard this looked like good news. And it was. Nice.
With the keyboard closed, a long press on the touch screen pops up a couple of icons, one of which provides access to the soft keyboard for data input – straight forward enough. The other icon – also accessible with the phone closed – gives access to the ‘selection mode’. Basically, this enables text to be selected directly via the touchscreen. Handy, but since the position you press determines where the selection starts, it’s not quite the perfect solution it first appears. Still, it’s a nice idea.
We’re disappointed to report that using the menu button on the hard keyboard (of the G1) as the equivalent to ‘control’ on a PC to shortcut to ‘select all’, ‘copy’, ‘paste’ and ‘cut’ still isn’t supported but you can’t have everything. Also, we can’t work out how to ‘select all’, but maybe that’s just us.
Well that’s about the size of it for the immediately obvious changes (and to be fair this was only a minor update) but the notification email also promises that we’ll soon see an update providing PDF and PowerPoint support. Great stuff! Especially as existing registered users will get the update for free..
