Using the Google G1 desktop

Tips and Tricks
A very basic tutorial for those new to the G1 and who might need some help finding their way around the desktop. The video below explains the basics but for the more literary types this post also contains word (below the video).
To customise the desktop long press on the background (not on an icon though) to pop up the ‘add to home’ menu. You can get to the same menu via ‘menu’ -> ‘add’ but this saves a click and those clicks can add up…
Options are:
- Application - lets you add an app to your home page (much simpler than the long press and drag method IMO).
- Shortcut - creates a link directly to a folder (useful) or playlist (also useful) amongst other things.
- Widget - By default you’ve got the option to add a clock, picture frame or search bar to your home page. It’s worth noting if you delete the default clock (and who wouldn’t) you can retrieve it from here. I haven’t worked out what the point of the ‘picture frame’ widget is yet.
- Wallpaper - to… wait for it… change wallpaper.
