If you want to organise files on your G1′s SD card you’re going to need to create folders. Bizarrely, it seems this isn’t possible via the G1 unless you install a third party app. I’m currently using ‘EStrongs File Explorer’1 which is all kinds of wonderful but if you’d rather not install an app, this annoyingly long-winded and inconvenient method does do the job:

  • Connect G1 to computer via USB cable2
  • Drag down the notification blind thingy
  • Click on the ‘USB connected’ notification
  • Select ‘Mount’ when the option menu pops up
  • Open file manager on your computer and you should see a new removable drive. With a bit of luck that’s your G1
  • Create folders as usual
